Q: History of AOI farm (from when, who, why ,... started organic agriculture?

A: The father of Aoi san (the husband’s father) started trying organic methods gradually from 20 years ago. Aoi san took over his father’s farm 16 years ago and started completely organic agriculture.

Q: What/how are the organic vegetables they produce (Type of organic vegetables and when they plant, where they get the seeds,...)?

A: Pumpkin, radish, cucumber, carrots - vegetables

Seeds - traditional not hybrid (bought)

In summer (May to August), they produce pumpkins which can be eaten raw in salad.

In winter(from September), they produce radish, cucumber, spinach, carrots and turnips. They also produce dried radish.

Q: What is the irrigation system (watering the plant)?

A: They don’t water so much. Rain water is enough especially after the plant grows. They bring water by vehicle (tank) especially when the seeds sprout and require the soil to be moist.

Q: Fertilizer (source of nutrients for the plants)

A: When they seed, they use chicken manure and oyster shells. They’ve used oyster shells for two years and haven’t realized remarkable changes yet. It takes a long time to dissolve nutrients in the soil. They don’t use fertilizer so much and only use it when the vegetables don’t grow well.
